Sharpie Nail Art

8 Mar

sharpie nails

Time and time again we see all these intricate and fun nail designs with different colors and patters designs that most assume could only be achieved by a wonderful manicurist with tons of nail polish pens. Well I am no manicurist and don’t have any nail polish pens, which is why I got excited when I saw this pin for Sharpie nail art.

Fun & Easy!

It’s a pretty basic concept- use Sharpies instead of nail pens for simple fun designs. So I grabbed by silver Sharpie and just went with a simple line design I had seen on a different pin. And lo and behold, I had a brand new, quick and easy, look- all thanks to a Sharpie.

I was very pleased with the results… until about a few hours later. Just by going about my day with homework and house chores, the Sharpie design had completely worn off. Adding a clear coat on top is definitely a MUST if you’re going to try any kind of Sharpie nail art. Otherwise, you’ll just watch your pinperfect manicure fade away.

It was fun while it lasted.

Valentine’s Day Fail

17 Feb

Red Velvet Cake

Now that Valentine’s day has come & gone, some of you have memorable stories to share, while others might have had some “please tell me that was just a dream” moments. I personally had a little bit of both. Thankfully, it wasn’t too bad but still a little embarrassing, but the worst part had to be that Pinterest let me down.
I had found this scrumptious looking dessert that I thought would be both delicious and different. Red velvet cake, pudding, cool whip, and Oreos… what more could you ask for. However, this pin had no written instructions, it was all taught through pictures.  But even so, it looked pretty simple. And what I loved most was how the pudding soaks into the cake.

Well, let’s just say that didn’t exactly happen. There was not a drop of pudding soaking into that cake as Pinterest had promised. Perhaps next time I need to make the holes in the cake bigger, or the pudding a bit “runnier”. Maybe that’s why written instructions are so helpful.

Keeping it Simple…

Next time, I think I’ll just stick to chocolate-covered strawberries or cake made from scratch. But if you or someone you know has made this “pin-fail” a pinperfect treat, please share with us your secrets.

52 Reasons Why I Love You

deck of cards

So whether you and your loved one like to go all out on Valentine’s day, or keep it low-key, it’s

always nice to share a small handmade gift. There’s something about a gift from the heart that even Hallmark can’t compete with.

Last year I came across this deck of cards craft and decided to make one for my boyfriend. The version I found on Pinterest was much more elaborate and involved pictures and cutouts on every card. But as a college student overwhelmed with classes and internships, I decided to go for a more simplistic route.

Make It Personal

I still used a regular deck of playing cards and simply took a Sharpie and wrote a reason why I love my boyfriend on each card. Coming up with the 52 reasons was the fun part. I included everything from the typical “you always make me laugh” to personal inside jokes only he would understand.

Valentine's Deck of CardsI got semi-crafty and decorated the box to make it a little personal, but it was such a simple and sweet gift to put together. And the most important part was how much my boyfriend loved it! Seeing the smile on his face while he went through each card was truly priceless.

And the best part is, you two can pull out the cards whenever you want to play a friendly game of Go-Fish, and it will be a wonderful reminder of your love. I highly recommend this pinperfect gift for your valentine this year.

5 Pinners Worth Following

10 Feb

One of the reasons why I love Pinterest is because it’s fun, easy and organized way to find different crafts, recipes, workouts, fashion tips and WAY more.

But did you know that there is SO MUCH MORE to Pinterest than just following your friends’ boards? There are tons of celebrities and companies on Pinterest. Here are five pinners that I personally think are worth following. They’re all filled will loads of pinperfect ideas.

1- Starbucks Loves

Let’s be honest, how many people do you actually know that don’t like Starbucks? Even if you’re not a regular, it is nice to treat yourself to a white chocolate mocha every now and then. Well Starbucks Love is perfect for coffee lovers and water chuggers alike. They have tasty treats, creative crafts and loads of coffee pins that just simply make you feel warm inside.

So I know not everyone is a fan of watching HGTV, but you have to admit, they pretty much are the leaders when it comes to DIY projects, and anything that has to do with your home. The have boards for every room in your house and outdoors as well. Little tip: you MUST check out their “HGTV Dream Homes” board, you’ll be speechless.

3- Your School

Whether you’re a student or alumni, there’s nothing like showing off your school spirit. A lot of universities and colleges have their own official Pinterest accounts. They pin everything from campus photos, sporting events, graduation ceremonies and even game day taunts.

4- LaurenConrad.com

Some of you might remember her as LC from MTV’s Laguna Beach or The Hills, but Lauren Conrad has grown up to be a high-profile style icon. I love following her because she doesn’t just use her boards to promote her fashion line. She pins everything from exercise routines, nails, décor, and even just pretty flowers.

5- Pinterest!

Believe it or not, Pinterest has its own Pinterest account! You can get a behind the scenes look of their offices, check out some funny pins, or even take a glimpse of “The Pinterest Challenge.”
