Chevron and Glitter Nails

15 Apr

While some pins lead us to wonderful blogs or websites, others provide a step-by-step pictorial or simply have an instructional caption. Still others are simply pictures of something fun, delicious, or trendy that we’d love to try, but are left to attempt without direction. The latter happened to me with a pin featuring some fun nails.

The bright pop of color, with both a glitter and a chevron accent nail, really makes a statement without looking tacky. Apparently chevron is becoming a huge trend in clothes, accessories, and home décor, so why not add it to your manicure? This look seemed pretty self-explanatory, but the chevron part did cause some trouble.

The whole tape and nail polish trick didn’t really work, and if you don’t have those awesome nail polish pens that are intended for designs like these, you’re last option will be to work with a Sharpie. If you read my earlier post on Sharpie nail art, you might be a bit skeptical to use a Sharpie. But in this case, a black Sharpie seemed to be the best solution, and it actually worked!

Close enough…

However, when I went back a few hours later to add a clear coat on top of my pinperfect manicure, the black Sharpie smeared with the application of the clear polish. I guess my stance against Sharpie nail art still stands. Even though this look wasn’t completely ruined, it might be time to invest in some nail pens.

Sharpie Nail Art

Time and time again we see all these intricate and fun nail designs with different colors and patters designs that most assume could only be achieved by a wonderful manicurist with tons of nail polish pens. Well I am no manicurist and don’t have any nail polish pens, which is why I got excited when I saw this pin for Sharpie nail art.

Fun & Easy!

It’s a pretty basic concept- use Sharpies instead of nail pens for simple fun designs. So I grabbed by silver Sharpie and just went with a simple line design I had seen on a different pin. And lo and behold, I had a brand new, quick and easy, look- all thanks to a Sharpie.

Beware!!

I was very pleased with the results… until about a few hours later. Just by going about my day with homework and house chores, the Sharpie design had completely worn off. Adding a clear coat on top is definitely a MUST if you’re going to try any kind of Sharpie nail art. Otherwise, you’ll just watch your pinperfect manicure fade away.

It was fun while it lasted.

52 Reasons Why I Love You

deck of cards

So whether you and your loved one like to go all out on Valentine’s day, or keep it low-key, it’s

always nice to share a small handmade gift. There’s something about a gift from the heart that even Hallmark can’t compete with.

Last year I came across this deck of cards craft and decided to make one for my boyfriend. The version I found on Pinterest was much more elaborate and involved pictures and cutouts on every card. But as a college student overwhelmed with classes and internships, I decided to go for a more simplistic route.

Make It Personal

I still used a regular deck of playing cards and simply took a Sharpie and wrote a reason why I love my boyfriend on each card. Coming up with the 52 reasons was the fun part. I included everything from the typical “you always make me laugh” to personal inside jokes only he would understand.

Valentine's Deck of CardsI got semi-crafty and decorated the box to make it a little personal, but it was such a simple and sweet gift to put together. And the most important part was how much my boyfriend loved it! Seeing the smile on his face while he went through each card was truly priceless.

And the best part is, you two can pull out the cards whenever you want to play a friendly game of Go-Fish, and it will be a wonderful reminder of your love. I highly recommend this pinperfect gift for your valentine this year.
